The Mackay Brick Event absolutely ROCKED!!! Just like Rockhampton, the crowds were HUGE and the locals were massively enthusiastic about the show. The line up for entry never ended til late in the afternoon each day. Hype for the show was so huge that the local news added it to their “Whats On” in Mackay and the local radio was talking up the show with excitement!
We even had the army come in and check out the show as there was a never-ending stream of them as our neighbour all weekend on their way to Shoalwater Bay for Talisman Saber. Our LEGO has never been so well guarded as it was with these guys bunked in beside us!
I heard nothing but compliments all weekend and everyone involved deserves a big pat on the back for a job well done! As always, everyone pitched in from setup to pack up, supporting each other to make this show great!
Thanks to all our QLUG members and Townsville LUG members that participated, either by being there, sending stuff to display or simply helping promote the show. It was also awesome seeing one of the local colleges showing off their cool Mindstorms robots.
We were joined by the lovely people from the Camp Quality EsCARpade, fundraising for their awesome cause. They brought along Emmet, who posed for photos with excited LEGO fans.
The local Lions group worked tirelessly to keep everyone well fed, with their fundraising catering. Well done guys! I heard the crowds were so much bigger than anticipated that they ran out of food, oh my! No doubt that $$$ will also go to a great cause.
Big thanks of course, goes to The LEGO Group, for providing LEGO gifts for our hardworking exhibitors. I’m sure everyone left inspired and will be creating awesome things.
Last but never least, thanks to Brick Events for handling the event management side of things, so exhibitors can turn up, set up and have a great weekend talking to people about their hobby. Here’s a live walkthrough of most of the show
The Daily Mercury newspaper did a great article on the show Sunday.
